About the location

Église Saint-Jacques
11 rue Marx Dormoy, 51100 Reims
  • Marne
  • Grand Est
It is the most old(former) parish church of Reims. This medieval, high church of 1190 at the end of the XIIIth century, received a new chorus(choir) in the XVIth century. Used as stable and quarters in barracks from 1793 till 1802, the church Saint Jacques is restored by the architect Narcissus Brunette in 1854 and listed(classified) in conformance with(for) historic monuments in 1912\. During the World War I, the building is strongly harmed. In 1920-1921, the architect Henry Deneux tested his system of skeleton in rooms(parts, plays) of armed cement put together(combined) and removable which he used then for the skeleton of the Cathedral of Reims. The bell tower with lantern, destroyed during the World War I, is rebuilt from 1987 till 1994\. The church Saint Jacques receives sets(groups) of contemporary stained-glass windows of Joseph Sima in 1965-1969, of Maria Elena Viera Da Silva in 1996-1997 and of Benoît Marcq in 2010.
