Église Saint-Martin
1 Place Saint-Martin, 51120 Moeurs-Verdey
This Romanesque church of the thirteenth century contains a magnificent fresco of the early sixteenth century (1520-1530) representing a medieval morality: the «Dit des trois morts et des trois vifs» (7 meters long and 3.50 meters high), an original stone altar of the thirteenth century with its remains of paintings on its sides (cross of malta and foliage) and its paving in sandstone and tomettes.
In different parts of the building, traces of polychrome can be found (false apparatus, fleur-de-lys, biblical scene, cross of consecration, vegetable crown). We can also see, on the ends of the beams, in the choir, mascarons representing the faces of grimacing monks.
The church was classified as a Historical Monument in 2014, as it was only in 2012 that the fresco was discovered. The association that manages the place is recognized as being of general interest.
