The origins of the objects in the collections of which those of the museum still reveal their secrets. A lecture by Eric Boës, archaeo-anthropologist working at Inrap Grand Est.

Reported from far away or collected by chance, some museum objects sometimes have very complex stories, stories that will be told during the conference.
The objects sought in the ground by geologists, archaeologists and prehistorians required a long learning process before they could reveal all their secrets. The biblical deluge has long been an explanation for certain oddities, which science could not yet understand.
For example, were the first elephant bones found in the alluvial deposits of the Rhine assimilated to the consequences of a great tidal wave, which would have pushed these remains back from Africa.
This quest for origins has led to the constitution of many collections, which still reveal their secrets. Extinct animals have been described, as have new periods in human history.
An exploration of these objects collected in Alsace and elsewhere illustrates a great human adventure, which also requires great care.
