Visit the old citadel of the Mothe and admire the view of the valley that it offers you!

A former stronghold, this site has now become a pleasant tree walk offering, from its 506 meters of altitude, a breathtaking panoramic view of the Mouzon valley, the Bassigny hills and the 24 surrounding villages.
To complete your tour, a leaflet of the visit will be offered to you.
The access road starts from the center of Soulaucourt-sur-Mouzon on the axis Neufchâteau-Lamarche, the path is signposted. By the A31: exit at the Bourmont-Lamarche interchange. You can go to the site at any time of the day.
Guided tours are possible on Sunday 18 September, between 10.30 and 14.30.

The old(former) citadel is on the municipality of Soulaucourt-sur-Mouzon, on a tray(plateau) which dominates the valley of Mouzon in 500 m of height. Called often Mothe-en-Bassigny, or Mothe in Lorraine, this city(estate) was based(established) on the location of a fortified castle in 1258\. Privileges were granted to the inhabitants of the city(estate) by the count of Bar, Thiébaut II. During quarrels committed(hired) between France and Lorraine, in 1645, the fortified town is destroyed.
