The municipality is particularly well known for the 132 Colmar-Meyenheim air base built in 1955 to redeploy units stationed in Germany. The base was officially named 132 Air Force Base "Commandant René Pépin" on 25 May 1963\. Born on April 3, 1905 in Cherbourg, René Pépin is an Air Force pilot who disappeared in action on June 15, 1940, when he was deputy commander of the II/7 fighter group.
On June 16, 2010, the flag of the BAO (Air Base Operations) 132 is folded, to join the historical service of the Defence/ Air Force in Vincennes. Air Force Base 132 is disbanded. On July 1, 2010, at midnight, the facilities of the former air base were renamed Colonel Dio neighborhood and transmitted to the Army.
