The fresco is a large-scale tribute to Rabbi Isaac Ben Samuel de Dampierre. Rabbi Isaac ben Samuel de Dampierre was a twelfth-century French tossafist* (1100 - 1174), author of tossafot, glosses, and commentaries on the Talmud.
*A term for rabbis in the Middle Ages between the 11th and 14th centuries.
