The station was built in the early 20th century in the Renaissance style on the plans of the Parisian architect Félix Houssin, because of the nearby castle that belonged to the prince of Talleyrand. It was put into service on October 6, 1902, with the opening of the track between the station of Romorantin and the station of Écueillé. The passenger building was restored in 2008-2009, but since the beginning of October 2009, no trains have been operating. The Valençay station is listed as a Historical Monument as a railway and industrial heritage.
