Built in 1832, on the site of the convent of the Cordeliers, the work of the architect of the department and of the city, Barthélémy Juillien, courtyard covered in 1892-1893, this building, with functional neo-classical architecture, is part of a monumental perspective in front of the Place de la Nation, a former market place with wheat established on the hold of the Gallo-Roman arenas. The district, long located between city and countryside, experienced great economic development in the nineteenth century and saw the installation of many hostels.
