Jujitsuffragettes – London’s Amazons
London, 1910: Edith Garrud teaches jujitsu with her husband and meets the suffrage movement, activists for women’s right to vote. The latter carry out spectacular actions and have to face the violent repression of the forces of law and order. About thirty women trained by Edith Garrud will be in charge of protecting the leaders of the suffragettes, in particular Emmeline Pankhurst. Disguises, subterfuges and direct action are the key words of these women who call themselves «the amazons». From the intimate space to the public space, within the couple or the WSPU – the Social and Political Union of Women, Jujitsufragettes is a historic dive into the moments of hardship, doubt and power of Edith Garrud and her fighting sisters.
