Flash visits No sleep. The party in all its states.
From June 11 to September 18, 2022, the Musée des beaux-arts, Les Champs Libres and Frac Bretagne are presenting a major collective exhibition entitled Pas sommeil. La fête dans toutes ses états”, dedicated to the notion of celebration as a fruitful experience invested by artists. This theme is deeply rooted in Rennes' DNA and driven by the common desire to meet again after two years of health restrictions. Summer 2022 would thus be the (great) evening in which transgressions carrying collective convergence, the creative encounter of meaning and form will once again be possible.
The exhibition is thus open, festive, poetic, generous but also contemplative, surly and militant. It evokes the celebration in its broader meaning – from the impromptu popular gathering to the dance floor, from the village fair to the rock concert, from the techno rave to the queer culture…. bringing together artistic practices from all walks of life. The festival is seen as a place of rejoicing as much as that of resistance, of social, identity and cultural claim as of catharsis, that of the spectacular as of the intimate.
By investing the universe of the festival, the works presented invite visitors to live a unique experience, challenging their five senses, encouraging interaction with the proposed devices and the setting in motion of their bodies. The aesthetics, the atmospheres, the signals, the equipment extracted from the festive world are transposed and put at the service of the works of art, with a good dose of humor.
