Chapelle Sainte-Anne / Daoulas
Rue de l'église, 29460, Daoulas
The chapel Sainte-Anne, hospice created by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem until 1429, was remodelled in 1667\. A dormitory, at the back, adjoins the chapel to welcome pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, Rocamadour or performing the Tro Breizh. After the Revolution, the chapel was used as a venue for meetings of the political corps to discuss parish affairs. The stones of its transept, demolished in the nineteenth century, are used for the construction of the presbytery. Its porch is made of Kersanton stone, the rest of the Logonna stone building. The bell tower houses three bells, one of which was melted in 1658\. The chapel was declared a historic monument in 1862.
On the porch, Corinthian columns surround Saint Anne and the Virgin Mary. On the lower right, we find Joseph (Mary’s husband) and on the left Joachim (Anne’s husband).
Nearby, the 15th century Calvary illustrates the scenes of the Crucifixion in the west, and the Nativity in the east.
