The Tower of the Mill is a vestige of the priory of the Benedictine Ladies (the priory dates from the eleventh century), located in Marcigny, in the French department of Saône-et-Loire. Since 1913, the Moulin Tower has been the municipal museum dedicated to archaeology, decorative arts and fine arts. This building was declared a Historical Monument in 1909\. The 300 m² municipal museum on four levels has been labeled «Musée de France» since 2002\. Seven exhibition spaces have been installed. Decorative arts, Fine Arts, local history... the collections of the Tower of the Mill are rich and varied. Each year, they are enriched and enhanced by a temporary exhibition, in the form of a retrospective or by the presentation of contemporary works. Numerous remains of the priory of the Benedictine Ladies, built in the 11th century by Geoffroy and Hugues de Semur, are exhibited in the museum and testify to Marcigny’s prestigious past.
