Located in the Domaine «Les Champollion», the Musée Champollion is dedicated to the memory of the Champollion brothers: Jean-François (1790-1832), the Egyptologist and Jacques-Joseph Champollion-Figeac (1778-1867), his elder brother and the birth of Egyptology. Protected under the title of Historical Monuments, the property, acquired by the Department of Isère, testifies to the stays dauphinois of the two brothers. Everything in these places signals their presence and maintains their memory: the shadows of the park that they appreciated, the mansion and its interior decorations, the furniture, art objects and personal effects of the two men, preserved by the descendants. In order to be able to perpetuate the work of memory initiated by the family, the Department of Isère led an ambitious architectural, landscape and museum project to offer to this place of memory a radiation to the measure of the Champollion brothers.
