The living room and library of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts de Savoie, located in the oldest part of the castle, were renovated as a whole in 2020.
The living room features a gallery of portraits of key figures of the Academy as well as a part of its library. We also discover the pendulum offered by the poet Lamartine to his niece on the occasion of his wedding.
The Academy holds its monthly sessions there. It is also the venue for welcoming speeches by its new members.
The Académie de Savoie library contains approximately 4,000 books and periodicals. From the first edition of its memoirs, in 1825, the Academic Society of Savoy exchanged its publications with those of the corresponding societies and received books written by its members. Many books come from donations and bequests.
This fund focuses on the sciences, arts and literature mainly concerning the former Duchy of Savoie. Its chronological distribution extends from the 16th to the 21st century, but the main part is composed of works dating from the 19th century. The library continues to be enriched by the regular donations of Savoyard authors, members or friends of the Academy.
