The castle dates from the 12th century. Built on this rocky promontory, it occupied an ideal place for defense. The current dungeon, heavily restored in the 1960s/70s, is undoubtedly what texts call the great tower or prison tower. Of quadrangular plan, it houses a lower room where perhaps the prisoners were placed and an upper room lit by seat windows and accessible from the patrol path. It was originally accessed by the curtains. This medieval tower today houses, on its walls, exhibitions of paintings by contemporary painters.
