The exhibition Adaptabilis by eco-artist Laurence Piaget-Dubuis and urban architect Hervé Savioz invites us to question the habitability of territories in the face of climate challenges and the retreat of glaciers. Through an immersive photographic installation, this Swiss duo, sensitive to the Alpine environment, opens negotiations to adapt, adjust, agree on new relations of cohabitation between human and non-human living and co-write the stories of a shared future.
Alpine glaciers and their waterways are visible markers of climate change and are actors of the territory and the landscape. These ice giants are the main source of fresh water on the planet that is vital to life on Earth. Their inexorable disappearance reveals the pressure we are putting on ecosystems. There are clear signals of a break between fragile balances that constantly alert us to the need for action and demand our full attention.
Adaptabilis invites us to explore new scenarios, placing at the centre of the table the negotiations to be conducted on the sharing of natural resources and the dynamic balance of ecosystems in limited and threatened spaces. The cascading consequences of rising temperatures invite us to mobilize our imaginations, to create other systems of thought and governance and to implement them through concrete actions.
