Crête des Éparges
55160 Les Éparges
Located 22 kilometres from Verdun in the direction of Fresnes en Woëvre, the Éparges ridge was the object of fierce fighting in 1915\. Attempting to reduce the Saint-Mihiel Salient in the spring of 1915, the French attacked the Éparges Ridge, a strategic point dominating the south of the Meuse coasts. The Germans are fighting back. The surface confrontation sinks underground, and a “mine war” begins in the bowels of the hill. Funnels are the visual witnesses of this «mine war», as well as the memorials of the 106th RI, Memorial of the Engineer, Monument of point X, Monument to 302th RI, Monument of the Rooster, the panoramas of points X and C.
At the foot of the hill stretches the French necropolis called «Cemetery of the Pavement».
