The Louis Sadoul History Circle offers you a detailed guided tour of the 11 paintings on the history of logging and the flotation of wood in the Valley of the Plain.

Classified as Historical Monuments, these unique testimonies are carefully preserved in the Hall of Honor of the City Hall of Raon-l'Étape. These paintings are a real documentary wealth for the knowledge of activities related to the exploitation and trade of wood in the eighteenth century, in the Vosges and in Lorraine.

For lack of official building(ship), the city Council(Advise) met formerly in a hall(market) placed in the middle of Raon the Stage. This place which served as covered market threatened ruins. Then, the administration of François Dubois decided to demolish(destroy) aforementioned hall(market) and to make build a new building(ship) in 1733\. Work consisted of the construction of a Town hall with a hall(market) below for markets and an attic above for a store in grains(beads). Its lounge(show) of honour shelters an unique(only) collection of 12 paintings(boards), witnesses(batons) of the life of the old man Raon today, which redraw forestry development and drive of the wood in the XVIIIth century.
