About the location

Église Saint-Hubert
Rue de la Poste, 54870 Cons-la-Grandville
  • Meurthe-et-Moselle

In the South of the castle raises itself(draws itself up) the old(former) priory Benedictine, devoted to saint Michel, based(established) by the first Lord of Idiots, Dudon, and his wife Hadwige, girl of the count de Chiny. It was rebuilt in 1760s by the famous architect Laurent Benoît Dewez. Its church, which became parish under the patronymic of saint Hubert, at the time of French Revolution, keeps(preserves) a crypt of the XIth century, an exceptional evidence of the Romanesque art in Lorraine. It is open to the public once a year on the occasion of European Heritage Days and receives(holds) wall paintings(paints) of the XIIIth and XVth centuries, evidence of an unique(only) tradition of burials in Lorraine, discovered in 1989.
