The association " Masquarades " puts back(hands) the Italian-style theatre of Gueret on the centre stage during European Heritage Days 2019.

Further to the infatuation provoked by this monument to guérétois and to creusois, theatre continues to open its doors in this exceptional case.
Small theatre was held(retained) during the first edition(publishing) of mission BERN among 250 monuments nationaux.en danger.
Strong of the infatuation of our godmother, ANNY DUPEREY, and of the support of sir Stephane BERN, the association pursues its work of protection(saving) and of emphasising of small theatre.
It is with a big(great) pride and a great emotion that theatre opens its doors again.
On September 21st and 22nd, 2019, the association will propose to the public of the guided tours of the inside of theatre and return especially over its last years of exploitation(operation) as cinema.
As last year, association will set up a system of ticket numbered to guarantee the place(square) of the visitors in the tail and to allow them to return at the hour planned(provided for) by visit.

About the location

Théâtre à l'italienne
Place Varillas, 23000 Guéret

Built Place des Barnabites (now Place Varillas) according to the plans of Monsieur Vincent Boulle, architect in Limoges in 1837, this theatre proposed a rich and varied program: dramas, comedies, operas-comedy.
This is where one of the best actresses of the mid-19th century will start: Rose Cizos, better known as «Rose Chéri».
But over time, the building deteriorates, it will be used as a barracks for soldiers during the war of 14-18.
In 1928, his restoration was entrusted to Gilbert Talbourdeau, architect at Montluçon.
On Tuesday, November 18, 1930, we read in "Le courrier du Centre" that "Guéret owned […] of all the cities of its importance, the most beautiful theatre in France".
In 1932, the place was transformed into a cinema until it closed on December 31, 1983.
In the 1990s, the municipality will undertake work, which explains its remarkable state of conservation.
