At least in June, the nave of the chapel will be the subject of a new archaeological excavation campaign scheduled to continue the research work prior to its restoration.
This chapel built in the 11th and 12th centuries, a unique example of Romanesque religious architecture in the commune of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, was pre-empted by the city in 2013 following its sale on the site Le Bon Coin.
This purchase has preserved from a massive transformation this major place in the history of the territory which was the priory and parish church of Velorgues for several centuries.
Since 2014, the City has been implementing actions to study this chapel, preserve it and restore it.
In 2016, it was protected as a Historic Monument.
In 2017, rehabilitation work made it possible to put it out of water after restoring its roof.
In addition, several archaeological projects led by the Heritage Department of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, some in partnership with Inrap, have studied this chapel and its adjacent cemetery.
