Place Jean-Eurieult 95100 Argenteuil
Built by Théodore Ballu from 1862 to 1865 in the neo-Romanesque style, the parish church of Saint-Denys d'Argenteuil, which became a minor basilica in 1898, houses an important series of works of art, protected as historical monuments. Thanks to partly public funding, the republican motto “Liberty – Equality – Brotherhood” is inscribed on the pediment, before the laws of separation of church and state (1905). The grand tribune organ, built in 1867, is one of the most important in Val-d'Oise and one of the two great instruments built by the Ile-de-France organ builder Louis Suret. The instrument with three 56-note keyboards and a 32-note pedalboard with 43 stops was restored in 2008-2009.
The Basilica also contains a unique relic for Catholic worship: the Tunic.
It would have belonged to Jesus of Nazareth, who would have worn it at the time of his crucifixion. It is exhibited in a magnificent reliquary, and its reliquary of ostension can also be observed. The shows take place every 50 y
