5 place de l'Église 78660 Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt
The church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul has been listed as a historical monument since 1977\.
In the 12th century, at the request of the Lord of Bréthencourt, the Benedictine monks of Marmoutier de Tours founded a Priory of which only the church and some remains remain. It was composed of a nave with three aisles, with low sides in the lean-to, a choir and a circular ambulatory. Partially destroyed at the end of the Hundred Years' War, the church is partly rebuilt in the 15th century. The construction of the bell tower, thirty-three meters high, dates from the 15th - 16th century. In the 17th century due to the collapse of the roof; the church is deprived of its heart. The Priory ruined, the church becomes parochial. In 1858, the north and south lean-to aisles were replaced by double pitched roofs.
Today, it still welcomes many faithful and the SMBPatrimoine Association organizes guided tours of the church on request.
