Listed as a historic monument in 1928, the consular house of Saint-Flour is one of the city’s flagship monuments. Located in the heart of the city, on the old "Grant plassa", this building was the seat of civil authority of the city, close to the religious power of the bishop whose palace was on the other side of the square. Famous for its remarkable Renaissance façade (c. 1540), inspired by the Château de Chambord, the building also has several interior decorations listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments.
Labellisé musée de France since 2002, it was born at the beginning of the 20th century from the passion of Alfred DOUËT, who bought the building to restore it. But the Sanflorain scholar also undertook to gather a collection of works of art to restore the monument its lost splendor. It was in the rooms of the Hôtel Drouot, at antique dealers or directly from artists that Alfred DOUËT acquired the works he associated with those of the family castle of the Ternes. Distributed in
