Located in Ecuisses (Saone-et-Loire), near the Canal du Centre, Villa Perrusson is one of the sites managed by the Ecomusée Creusot-Montceau.
Villa Perrusson is the former employer’s residence of the Perrusson-Desfontaines family of ceramist industrialists. This building was built in the second half of the 19th century in two stages. In 1869 a first building was erected, the "Pavillon Perrusson". It is a patronage dwelling similar to the houses of the petty bourgeoisie of the time: A building with architecture and simple decorations, surrounded by a wooded park, with an orangery and a vegetable garden. About 25 years later, between 1892 and 1895, when the family business was in full swing, a very ornate pavilion was built against the north facade. This is the “Desfontaines Pavilion”. The decors of the previous one are then enriched in order to create a unity. These transformations, which create the villa Perrusson we know today, transform the residence into an impressive advertising tool. An incredible diversity of products manufactured in the family factory is displayed outside and inside: Bricks, mechanical tiles, flat tiles, enameled tiles, ridge ears, chimney miters, friezes, panels, medallions, balustrades, gutter covering, pavement tiles, wall earthenware, ceilings …
Villa Perrusson has been included in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since 2001\. Acquired by the Creusot Montceau Urban Community in 2008, the site benefited from a major restoration campaign between 2014 and 2022\.
2016 saw the opening to visit the garden following its rehabilitation and the restoration of the facades and roofs of the building. For several years, the garden became the venue for the exhibition of works by contemporary ceramic artists such as Agnès Debizet, Joanna hair, Frédérique Fleury, Jean Fontaine and Pablo Castillo.
The restoration of the interiors of Villa Perrusson took place between 2019 and 2022\. 2023 marks the opening to the public of the entire site. The public can now discover the English garden, the Perrusson pavilion, which hosts temporary exhibitions and the Desfontaines pavilion, furnished and decorated as it may have been in the years 1900-1910\. This historical reconstruction allows us to dive into the universe of Gabriel Desfontaines, grandson of the founder of the company who took over the management of the Ecuisses factory in 1909\. The different rooms, whether intimate, such as the bedrooms, or rather commercial, like the office, offer an immersive discovery of a surprising industrial bourgeois interior.
