On the occasion of the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days, the Saint-Joseph de Colmar church opens its doors to the public on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On the occasion of the 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days, the Saint-Joseph de Colmar church opens its doors to the public on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This afternoon will be an opportunity to discover differently this building and the heritage of the Saint-Joseph district, through several activities offered by the Communauté Saint-Joseph Espérance.
On the agenda:
Guided tour of the Saint-Joseph church: a discovery of its history, architecture and peculiarities.
Visit of the exhibition "L'église au cœur du quartier Saint-Joseph": a dive into the history of the church and the links it maintains with the life of the neighborhood.
And a lighting of the organ.

The church of Saint-Joseph de Colmar in pink sandstone in neo-Gothic style, built between 1896 and 1900, is the witness of the Christian architectural renewal in a typical style. She played an essential role in the development of this working-class district of Colmar, marked by a strong industrialization. Located in the western perimeter of the city, it was built according to the plans of the recognized architect Charles Winckler, nicknamed "Viollet-le-Duc alsacien". The heterogeneity of styles gives the Saint-Joseph church a majestic architecture.
The interior of the building offers an exceptional panorama of the know-how and inspirations of the builders of the time. The Klem workshops, as well as the stained glass windows of the Zettler house in Munich, present a real artistic treasure. The side altars, the Way of the Cross—unique to Colmar — and the icon of the Virgin and Child challenge visitors throughout the journey.
