The Saint-Médard church is one of these emblematic monuments of the city. Its founding date is unknown. From its construction of the 12th century, it retains a tripartite facade in the Roman Poitevin style. From its origin it is a parish church intended for the inhabitants. Its first location, away from the city fortifications, would have earned it the nickname of Saint-Médard-des-Champs. Late 12th - early 13th century, it integrates the urban enclosure and finds itself in the heart of the agglomeration and its economic activity. Only a few elements of the early church remain. Only the inner wall of the facade remains. The current facade was built towards the end of the 12th century. The church was enlarged in the course of the 13th century. The 15th century is for the church a period of great transformations that give it its current profile.
