Jardin de sculptures du LAAC
302 avenue des bordées 59140 Dunkerque
Space of meeting, walk and discovery, shielded from the wind and from the urban agitation, the garden of sculptures is a real case for the LAAC. Imagined and conceived any rooms(parts, plays) by the landscape painter Gilbert Samel associated with the artist Pierre Zvenigorodsky, he(it) was finished in 1980, shortly before the construction of the museum. Placed between the channel(canal) release and the site of the old(former) shipyards, lined by bastions, the garden develops on four hectares its green hills in the rounded off forms calling back(reminding) the movements of dunes and wind. Two ornamental ponds level at the heart of a flora dominated by willows, oyats and other brooms. The mineral and the vegetable alternate according to the perspectives to contrast with the environment or underline it. In the bend of the sinuous paths(ways), near the plans of water emerge eighteen metal sculptures, concrete or stone.
