THE FUTURE OF BOOKS
Two-part meeting with Mr. Pascal Barbry, Director of Research at the CNRS and Chair "Human Lung Cell Atlas" at 3IA Côte d'Azur and Yves-Marie Lequin, Dominican priest in Nice, writer and artist.
European heritage days offer a time for reflection on endangered heritage. The preservation of historical texts on synthetic DNA marks a revolution: metal capsules, as big as a pill, preserve digital data in genetic form, guaranteeing stability over hundreds of thousands of years.
This technology, inspired by biology, addresses the challenges of digital storage—limited lifespan, exploding data volumes and ecological impact of data centers—by offering an ultra-compact, durable and energy efficient solution.
Symbol of innovation, these capsules protect the cultural heritage of humanity against forgetfulness and technological obsolescence, while paving the way for more responsible archiving.
At 11 a.m., a prototype of a synthetic DNA capsule encoded with a heritage text will be delivered to the library. This capsule will be officially handed over, for the first time in a French territorial library, to ensure its preservation. An event not to be missed!
