Château de Fère

The old castle, of which unfortunately only vestiges remain today, with its seven towers on a huge artificial mound whose slopes are covered with sandstone pavements, was built from 1206 and served as a model for many castles. It was the constable Anne de Montmorency, companion of François I, who, around 1528, transformed the old castle and then enlarged it in 1555 by the famous Renaissance Gallery. These works are the work of Jean Bullant (who will build the gallery of Chenonceaux) and perhaps Jean Goujon. This explains the quality of the adopted design, the sculptures, the size of the stone, as well as the research into color.
