Jardin Botanique de Genève
The history of botanical gardens often focuses on men. Yet women have also left their mark on these institutions and on the field of botany. This tour explores women’s contributions to botany and to our institution.
Our herbarium contains specimens that bear witness to the botanical work of women such as Jeanne Barret (1740–1807) and Sofia Topali (1900–1944). Our library holds numerous works created by women from around the world.
Today, the gardeners make up about half of our garden team, and our many scientists advance our understanding of the plant and fungal worlds through their research every day.

L’histoire des jardins botaniques met souvent les hommes au premier plan. Pourtant, les femmes ont également marqué ces institutions ainsi que la botanique de leur empreinte. Cette visite explore la contribution des femmes à la botanique et à notre institution.
Dans notre herbier, des échantillons témoignent des activités botaniques de femmes telles que Jeanne Barret (1740-1807) ou Sofia Topali (1900-1944). Notre bibliothèque contient également de nombreuses œuvres crées par des femmes du monde entier.
Aujourd’hui, les jardinières représentent environ la moitié de l’équipe de notre jardin et nos nombreuses scientifiques font avancer, chaque jour, notre connaissance du monde végétal et fongique par leurs recherches.
