Guided tour of the exhibition: Kiki de Montparnasse, model, singer, painter and writer

Benoît Noël, art historian, will retrace the life of Kiki de Montparnasse, model, muse of famous artists, dancer, singer, emblematic figure of the artistic world of the interwar period.

Crowned «Queen of Montparnasse» at the age of 28, Kiki de Montparnasse, née Alice Prin (1901-1953), remains unknown despite her memories and books telling her life in photographs or comics. In the preface to the aforementioned memoirs, the American writer Ernest Hemingway does not hesitate to support: And then, it was wonderful, after the work, to see Kiki. Having initially received a pretty face, she had made it a masterpiece. She certainly dominated that Montparnasse era better than Queen Victoria ever dominated hers.” Boy, that’s a big compliment! It is true that dreamed model of the painters Foujita or Moïse Kisling and the photographer Man Ray, Kiki inspired the sculptors Pablo Gargallo or Alexander Calder. She herself prides herself on painting scenes that are ultimately wiser than the repertoire of her songs for sailors. This conference, richly illustrated with rare documents, will strive to restore the thousand lights of this meteoric comet…

In a decoration(set) evoking the workshop(studio) from Montmartre of the painter, the visitor the universe and the works of Charles Léandre (1862-1934), at once wonderful pastellist and formidable caricaturist. The second level proposes all 74 works of the artist Eduardo Leon Garrido (1856-1949). At the 4th level, the room " Local Memory " redraws the history(story) of Condé-sur-Noireau, of its valley, the tragic hours of 1944 evoked with the support of an exceptional document: a model of about 40 m ². Information about Dumont d' Urville, discoverer of the Adélie Land, born in Condé-sur-Noireau in 1790\. Charles Tellier " The father du Froid ", inventor of the system of refrigeration, which studied in Condé-sur-Noireau and Maximilian Vox, leading expert of the domains of typography(typeface), born in Condé-sur-Noireau in 1894.
