To mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Juno Beach Centre is presenting “Rising to the Challenge”, a new temporary exhibit commemorating the RCAF’s role during the Second World War.
Between 1939 and 1945, nearly 250,000 Canadians served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Of the 45,000 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives, about 18,000 were in the air force, representing an exceptional and essential part of Canada’s war effort.
The Second World War was the biggest test the RCAF had ever faced. The exhibition explores the evolution of service and its emergence as an integral part of Canada’s military strategy and identity.
In this year of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the exhibition was awarded the national label «80 years of the Liberation» by Mission Libération and the regional label «80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy» by the Normandy Region.
