Die Ausstellung "Geschichte einer Freundschaft der Fotografen, vom Osten zum Westen" bietet eine einzigartige Begegnung zwischen den Blicken von Ara Güler und Marc Riboud, zwei großen Persönlichkeiten der humanistischen Fotografie des 20. Jahrhunderts. Durch einen Dialog mit Archiven, Fotografien und unveröffentlichten Dokumenten erzählt diese Ausstellung die Geschichte einer künstlerischen und menschlichen Beziehung, die im Laufe von Reisen, Korrespondenzen und der gleichen Aufmerksamkeit für die Welt aufgebaut wurde.
Obwohl sie auf zwei unterschiedlichen kulturellen Ufern geboren wurden, teilten Ara Güler und Marc Riboud eine zutiefst sensible Vision der Fotografie: jene eines Blicks auf die Wesen, die Städte, die Gesten des Alltags und die Veränderungen der zeitgenössischen Gesellschaften. Istanbul, Paris, Asien, der Mittlere Osten oder auch die großen Umwälzungen des 20. Jahrhunderts werden in ihren jeweiligen Werken zu Fragmenten einer gemeinsamen Erzählung, in der das Bild sowohl zeugt als auch einander näherbringt.
Die Ausstellung beleuchtet die Art und Weise, wie sich ihre Verläufe zwischen Orient und Okzident kreuzen, in einem ständigen Dialog zwischen Erinnerung, Moderne und Zirkulation der Blicke. Historische Abzüge, persönliche Archive, Veröffentlichungen, Korrespondenzen und seltene Dokumente offenbaren die Freundschaft und gegenseitige Bewunderung, die die beiden Fotografen über geografische und kulturelle Grenzen hinweg vereint haben.
Durch diese fotografische Durchquerung hinterfragt die Ausstellung auch die Rolle der Archive beim Aufbau eines gemeinsamen Gedächtnisses. Sie zeigt, wie die Fotografie zu einer universellen Sprache wird, die in der Lage ist, Brücken zwischen Kulturen, Generationen und Regionen zu bauen.

The exhibition «History of a friendship of photographers, from the East to the West» offers a unique encounter between the looks of Ara Güler and Marc Riboud, two great figures of humanist photography in the twentieth century. Through a dialogue of archives, photographs and unpublished documents, this exhibition traces the history of an artistic and human relationship built over travels, correspondence and the same attention paid to the world.
Born on two different cultural shores, Ara Güler and Marc Riboud have nevertheless shared a deeply sensitive vision of photography: that of a gaze turned towards beings, cities, everyday gestures and the transformations of contemporary societies. Istanbul, Paris, Asia, the Middle East or even the great upheavals of the twentieth century become, in their respective works, fragments of a common narrative where the image bears witness as much as it brings them together.
The exhibition highlights how their trajectories cross between East and West, in a permanent dialogue between memory, modernity and circulation of looks. Vintage prints, personal archives, publications, correspondence and rare documents reveal the bonds of friendship and mutual admiration that united the two photographers across geographical and cultural boundaries.
Through this photographic journey, the exhibition also questions the role of archives in building a shared memory. She shows how photography becomes a universal language capable of creating bridges between cultures, generations and territories.

L'esposizione "Storia di un'amicizia di fotografi, dall'Oriente all'Occidente" propone un incontro inedito tra gli sguardi di Ara Güler e Marc Riboud, due grandi figure della fotografia umanistica del XX secolo. Attraverso un dialogo di archivi, fotografie e documenti inediti, questa mostra ripercorre la storia di una relazione artistica e umana costruita attraverso i viaggi, le corrispondenze e l'attenzione al mondo.
Pur essendo nati su due sponde culturali diverse, Ara Güler e Marc Riboud hanno condiviso una visione profondamente sensibile della fotografia: quella di uno sguardo rivolto verso gli esseri, le città, i gesti del quotidiano e le trasformazioni delle società contemporanee. Istanbul, Parigi, l'Asia, il Medio Oriente o ancora i grandi sconvolgimenti del XX secolo diventano, nelle loro rispettive opere, frammenti di un racconto comune in cui l'immagine testimonia tanto quanto avvicina.
L'esposizione mette in luce il modo in cui le loro traiettorie si intersecano tra Oriente e Occidente, in un dialogo permanente tra memoria, modernità e circolazione degli sguardi. Stampe d'epoca, archivi personali, pubblicazioni, corrispondenza e documenti rari rivelano i legami di amicizia e di ammirazione reciproca che hanno unito i due fotografi oltre i confini geografici e culturali.

L’exposition « Histoire d’une amitié de photographes, de l’Orient à l’Occident » propose une rencontre inédite entre les regards de Ara Güler et Marc Riboud, deux grandes figures de la photographie humaniste du XXe siècle. À travers un dialogue d’archives, de photographies et de documents inédits, cette exposition retrace l’histoire d’une relation artistique et humaine construite au fil des voyages, des correspondances et d’une même attention portée au monde.
Nés sur deux rives culturelles différentes, Ara Güler et Marc Riboud ont pourtant partagé une vision profondément sensible de la photographie : celle d’un regard tourné vers les êtres, les villes, les gestes du quotidien et les transformations des sociétés contemporaines. Istanbul, Paris, l’Asie, le Moyen-Orient ou encore les grands bouleversements du XXe siècle deviennent, dans leurs œuvres respectives, les fragments d’un récit commun où l’image témoigne autant qu’elle rapproche.
