Spanning 60 years of Friedlander’s career through 70 prints and a film, Joel Coen’s curation highlights the photographer’s singular approach to composition and reveals an unexpected affinity between the two artists: their continual fascination with the sly power of images, explored through splintered framings, misleading compositions, and fractured and repeated elements. A veritable cinematic experience, the exhibition unfolds the images like a sequence of mini-narratives, each strange and anonymous.
This exhibition is part of the “Arles Associé” sequence of the Rencontres d’Arles.

À travers 70 tirages et un film, l’exposition passe en revue les 60 ans de carrière de Friedlander. La sélection de Joel Coen synthétise son approche singulière en matière de composition et dévoile une affinité inattendue entre ces deux artistes : tous deux explorent avec fascination le pouvoir sournois des images : cadre fragmenté, composition trompeuse, plan disloqué, effet de miroir. Véritable mise en abyme cinématographique, l’exposition déroule les tirages tels des mini récits individuels, étranges et anonymes.
Cette exposition fait partie de la séquence « Arles Associé » des Rencontres d’Arles.
