The City of Montreuil invites you to this visit which is part of the project of valorization and preservation of the site of Les Murs à Pêches, while responding to a desire to open this natural space to the public.
Your guides take you along these scents and tell you the history of these walls, heritage of the cultivation of trellised fruit trees: thanks to them, horticulturists from Montreuil were able to produce peaches in an unfavorable climate, supplying the markets of Les Halles until the beginning of the 20th century. At their peak, the fishing walls cover a third of the city, or more than 300 hectares, and constitute a linear 300 km of walls!
The guides also discuss the issues related to the gradual restoration of the site, listed under the sites and landscapes of the Ministry of Culture: the restoration of the walls, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Heritage Foundation - Mission Stéphane Bern, as well as the development of biodiversity trails, a project led by the community to create a network of pedestrian paths promoting access to the heart of this natural space.
And then, between the walls, you will discover the gardens, many of which are labeled "remarkable gardens", as well as the variety of associative activities of the site.
