After the foundation of the Capuchin convent (Michelet school and theater) in 1598, that of the Jesuits in 1618, and the Ursulines in 1620 (razed, on the site of the current Parisian café) the city welcomed a fourth and last religious establishment in the newly completed new rampart belt (at the site of the current boulevards). Like the Ursulines, the latter was feminine: from the Carmelites the order reformed by Saint Thérèse. It was founded in 1623 by the Marquis of Andelot-Coligny, lieutenant general of the king in Champagne and his wife who offered the large sum of 16,000 pounds for the land and construction of buildings. Let us recall that Coligny was the son of one of the leaders of the Protestant party during the religious wars, Gaspard de Coligny assassinated in 1572 during Saint Bartholomew’s Day. He was the only one of Gaspard’s 3 children to convert to Catholicism and it is said that he founded the convent of Chaumont in reparation for "his father’s esgaremens and the devast
