What if justice is not just played out in court? Director Yan Duyvendak transforms a highly publicized American news item into a theatrical experience. The starting point is real: Luigi Mangione’s murder of health insurance executive Brian Thompson. The scene, however, opens another path. What if the widow decided to address the one who killed her husband? On the set, a real process of restorative justice is then engaged. Mixing documentary material and scenic writing by the author Adèle Yon, Dear Luigi, I Hate You gives substance to a dizzying face-to-face. The show thus raises an essential question: can we get out of violence otherwise than by punishment?

Et si la justice ne se jouait pas seulement au tribunal ? Le metteur en scène Yan Duyvendak transforme un fait divers américain très médiatisé en expérience théâtrale. Le point de départ est bien réel : l’assassinat par Luigi Mangione de Brian Thompson, dirigeant d’assurance santé. La scène, elle, ouvre un autre chemin. Et si la veuve décidait de s’adresser à celui qui a tué son mari ? Sur le plateau s’engage alors un véritable processus de justice restaurative. Mêlant matière documentaire et écriture scénique par l’autrice Adèle Yon, Dear Luigi, I Hate You donne corps à un face-à-face vertigineux. Le spectacle pose ainsi une question essentielle : peut-on sortir de la violence autrement que par la sanction ?
