The church was originally the chapel of the hospital mentioned in 1266 by the will of its founder, Bertrand de Cardaillac; it would not have become a parish church until the second half of the 15th century.
The building, which can be dated to the second half of the thirteenth century, was built shortly after the foundation of the bastide around 1250\.
The church was very restored in the 1890s by the architect Paul Gout, who removed the roof in favor of a terrace cover and especially added the Bretèches of his coronation; the work was supervised by the architect of Cahors Achille Rodolosse.
The Saint-Martial church is a good example of a fortified church, but this aspect was amplified by the restoration of the late 19th century.
