RestoRes joined LORIER for a three-day public event at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, hosted by Inserm, to engage with the public and discuss research integrity and responsible research practices.
Aïssatou Gueye and Cédric Lemarchand, both members of the RestoRes crew, helped bring these concepts to the public in an accessible and engaging way, with a particular focus on research reproducibility. Through hands-on participatory workshops, children were invited to make small salt-dough figures following different protocols, while older children aged 8 and above created drawings based on different sets of instructions (this is part of a participatory randomised controlled trial). These simple activities provided a fun way to experience how seemingly small differences in protocols or instructions can lead to very different results.
Beyond the workshops, the event provided an opportunity to discuss a fundamental question with visitors: what makes research trustworthy? Together, we explored how transparency, reproducibility, clear protocols, careful reporting and research integrity contribute to making scientific findings more reliable... and why these principles matter not only to researchers, but to everyone who relies on science.
