Although the history of Saint-Genest-d'Ambière is closely linked to that of the fontevriste priory of Lencloître based on its territory at the beginning of the 12th century, its development became more important in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. During this period, the town’s appearance changed with the construction of buildings (castle, church, school) and the arrival of the railway, which increased the village’s market garden exports.
