Visit of the garden JACOPIN
Two adjoining gardens in the city center, on 1 800m ² will be open: the garden of the lark and the garden Jacopin, to discover at the foot of the ramparts of the old castle. The Jacopin Garden belonged to the family of the sculptor Achille Jacopin for seven generations. You can see traces of his workshop. It remained fallow for 60 years, its restoration is a long-term work.
The gardens are cultivated in permaculture, they include: a vegetable part, a floral part and a fruit part. They have several shallow pools (frogs, dragonflies...) 4 hives are present in height. The fauna and flora are particularly rich.
Several activities will be organized around the theme of the 5 senses: On Friday, May 31, for children: • taste: three crunchy leaves, guess which vegetable or plant each leaf corresponds to: taste the soup and guess which "vegetables" in the garden make up it • touch: riddles: the rod is rough", what is it? What is the stem smooth? • smell: touch these leaves and this bag, name the plants from which they come • how many songs of birds do you recognize • sight: name at least 5 plants and three animals that you have recognized in the garden The best answers will allow their authors to take a plant, a seed, a graft or a rhizome to replant. A school apiary will be present. A beekeeper will quickly present the hive, the bees to the children. The most attentive will be able to taste the honey.
On Saturday 1st for adults, several partners will be present: • The bassoon quintet "PICHARD 4" will play music • the school apiary and its beekeeper will take part in the animation • The publishing house "Cours toujours" will be present, The editor will talk about her books on gardens • Tasting "mysterious" soup• budding gardeners will be able to choose a cutting, iris rhizome or seeds to replant It is prudent to be well shod. The gardens are hardly accessible to people with reduced mobility. There are 110 steps from the bottom up, between the front door on the street and the exit door, at the level of the walkway (Chemin du Comte de St Pol).
