Discover the five senses at the Jardins de Candie in Saint Pierre Port with Guernsey Arts! Participate in a multisensory guided tour of the gardens and awaken your senses, discovering the secrets that hide in the gardens.
The Jardins de Candie, established in 1894, are divided into several parts. The downstairs gardens were refurbished in 1998 in Victorian fashion.
In the heart of the upper gardens you will find a splendid statue of Victor Hugo. This, unveiled on July 7, 1914, was a gift from the French government to the inhabitants of the island, “the little people of the sea” - a thank you for the warm welcome of the Ilians to the writer during his stay in exile.
Nearby, you will find a small space, created by the company of Victor Hugo in Guernsey, resplendent with plants paying tribute to the romantic characters created by Hugo.
Our guided tour (about 1 hour) is free but you have to book your place on Eventbrite.

À propos du lieu

Candie Gardens
Candie Gardens, Candie Road, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 1UG
  • Guernsey
Candie Gardens were established in 1894 and offer excellent panoramic views over the rooftops of St. Peter Port to the neighbouring islands. The Lower Gardens were sympathetically refurbished and restored in 1998-99 and are a rare surviving example of a Victorian Public Flower Garden. Visitors to the gardens can discover a wide variety of plants from all over the world. The statue of Victor Hugo was unveiled on the 7th July 1914 after being presented to Guernsey by the French Government in gratitude for the hospitality shown to Hugo during his exile in the island.
