The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria was built on volcanic rock above an archaeological site where the villa of the Roman emperor Augustus stood. For five generations this sumptuous residence has belonged to the Florentine family. The adventure began in 1834 when Villa Vittoria was built. Subsequently the eccentric Favorita villa was built, in the style of a Swiss chalet, finished in about 1875 and later, in 1882, the Rival villa. The three buildings, of different architectural inspiration, but linked by a common destiny, chain themselves forming the hotel complex as it appears to us today, immersed in the lush vegetation of a large Mediterranean park of two hectares, unique in its kind.
