The tree nursery was based(established) in 1875 by Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac for spread, culture and marketing of rural waterlilies. Before setting up its tree nursery, Latour-Marliac had found a way of crossing waterlilies by a process which stayed mysterious. The need existed because, at that time, the only resistant waterlily of Europe was a white waterlily. By crossing this white variety with other wild varieties origin of which was from America and besides, Latour-Marliac was right away capable of building a collection of waterlilies the pallet of which went of a delicate yellow to the fuchsia up to the intense red. In 1889, Latour-Marliac had the feeling that its collection was rather important to be presented to the World fair of Paris this year; also(so) his(her,its) plants of a new kind(genre) were revealed at the same time as Eiffel Tower. Installed(Settled) in the gardens of water in front of the Trocadéro, the hybrid waterlilies created a sensation and obtained the first price(prize) of their category. More important still, they caught the eye of the painter Claude Monet which was filled with wonder at it and had held under charm. It is this experience(experiment) in the Trocadéro which inspired it when it built its garden of water in Giverny. Latour-Marliac shelters the National Collection CCVS of Nymphaeas, that is more than 300 varieties of rural and tropical waterlilies, more than 50 varieties of lotus, the huge waterlily of Amazonia today (2m of diameter), in the ponds of cultures and of collection dating the XIXth and XXth century and 2 conservatories. A landscaped garden, a natural pond, a waterfall(stunt), a Japanese bridge(deck), a small historic museum, as well as a collection of bamboos, will come contribute to transport you in the surprising botanical history(story) of waterlilies.
