The country's second oldest and most exceptional stud - the then Imperial and Royal Bábolna Stud - was founded in 1789 to meet the growing demand for high quality military horses. The pursuit of quality has always been the cornerstone of our philosophy.
Today our Arabian stud at Babolna has around 280 horses, the majority of which are Shagya Arabians. The Shagya Arabian breed is distinguished by its elegance, harmonious movement, exceptional willingness and ability to learn, high working capacity and ideal size. The Shagya Arabian is a traditional supporting breed that excels in all disciplines up to medium level, so it is not surprising that Shagya Arabians are often found in the pedigrees of top international horses.
However, Bábolna National Stud does not only breed Shagya Arabians and purebred Arabians. Our stud farm in Dióspuszta, near Tata, has a long tradition of breeding English thoroughbreds.
The 20-hectare arboretum next to the stud was established in 1965. The nature reserve, which is of local importance, contributes to the tranquillity, peace and fresh air of the area, making it a pleasant place to relax.
You can enjoy 335 species of deciduous and 156 species of evergreen trees and shrubs on your walk or in the shade of the sheltered rest areas. The pond island rest area, accessed by a wooden bridge, is particularly charming.
Here you will also find the Famous Horses Memorial Park, the only one of its kind in Europe. 54 unique tombstones and marble plaques with Transylvanian motifs on 18 memorial hills, as well as a monument, commemorate our great horses.
