A school (in one form or another) is operating in the former Koigi Manor in Järvamaa County since1836. Currently 94 children attend the school and 39 go to the kindergarten. The manor garden is taken care of by the schoolchildren, who consider it an important part of the manor complex. As the schoolyard played an important part in Koigi Manor, assistance was sought from the EEA and Norway Grants programme to restore the ornamental garden of the manor and use it as a gathering place for the community. In 2014, the Herb Festival (named after the garden variety) was held for the first time, where top chefs introduced Norwegian cuisine and the culinary use of plants. During “Jam Week” held in the autumn, local residents marketed products that had been enhanced through entrepreneurship training. In an initiative modelled after one undertaken by the Norwegian partner Gamle Hvam Museum, visitors to Koigi garden can buy plants to take home with them. They are furnished with labels and QR codes that link to a video.
on 1 June professional gardeners guide a walk on the manor grounds and in the garden free of charge.

À propos du lieu

Koigi
Mõisavahe tee 10 Koigi Järva vald Järvamaa
Koigi Manor was established at the beginning of the 18th century. The Classical single-storey main building was completed in 1771. The estate was connected with the von Gruenewaldts Family for a long time. Since 1920, a school has been located in the main building.
During the Open Days visitors are invited to guided walks in the garden and the main building (free of charge). Schoolchildren sell refreshments handmade by themselves.
