Discover the character of Hildegard de Bingen with the guides of the Flaran abbey and the actress Nine de Montal who will read a selection of texts by this abbess, doctor of the church, first naturalist, healer, mystic composer and poet. These texts are taken from the collection Physica which lists among other the virtues of medicinal plants.
The reading will continue in a sensory and gourmet variation.
This thematic day around Hildegard of Bingen is organized in partnership with the Friends of Flaran. It will close with a concert of the Mora Vocis ensemble during which you will hear some pieces composed by Hildegarde (information and reservations www.amisdeflaran.com).

At the Abbey of Flaran, next to the listed buildings and exhibitions, there are also 3 hectares of park and gardens that you can discover, in a preserved natural environment on the edge of Baïse. Within the site, the monastic garden was redeveloped in the 18th century as a «French style» pleasure garden. For several years, a part of it, next to the dovecote, houses a garden of medieval inspiration. Evoking the old monks' garden, it consists of several parts. The most important is the garden of the simple or herbularius which houses, in chestnut plessis, the medicinal plants formerly used by the monks. In front of it, in the garden or hortus area, are grown on flowerbeds of small fruit trees, vegetable plants and vine in stilts. The last part is devoted to the orchard or viridarium. Near the vegetable garden, an area of meadow mowed once a year preserves the biodiversity of the site which also hosts hives, insect hotel and nest boxes.
