Jardin du musée-bibliothèque François Pétrarque

The garden is part of a site with extraordinary natural components: crystalline and green waters of the Sorgue, bubbling foam gushing from the spring in flood, huge cliff overlooking a famous bottomless abyss, narrow entrenched valley full of freshness and shadows… It is integrated into a beautiful park located on the left bank of the Sorgue. Isolated from the village by the foot of the rocky escarpment of the castle, this bank is relatively confidential and little frequented. Its access is through a «Roman» tunnel. It is the bank where Petrarch’s house was. The garden is decorated with cypresses and oleanders, a reminder of the spirit of small Italy attached to the memory of the poet. The terminal part of this bank, the Rotonde, faces the start of the Chemin de la Fontaine. It is planted with plane trees particularly spectacular by their size and their shape of hands that seem to emerge from these places.
