Did you know that the specificity of the vegetable garden of the Parc Floral de La Source is to be grown without any input of products harmful to the environment? To avoid being attacked by pests, the association of plants is favored as well as the use of auxiliary insects: this is biological control. For example, nasturtiums attract aphids that will not attack the tomato plants! Each year, a crop rotation allows the soil time to regenerate.

In 1959, the city of Orléans bought the estate of La Source to carry out its major project for a new city. Of the 682 hectares recovered, 457 are dedicated to the development of the city, 190 to the university and school buildings, and finally 35 hectares are reserved for the creation of a landscaped park to serve as a showcase for the horticultural activity of the department. The "Source" takes its name from the presence on the land of Bouillon, a resurgence and major source of the Loiret. Moreover, at the beginning of the 18th century, Baron Bolingbroke, a noble and wealthy exiled Englishman, animated a literary and philosophical circle in the spirit of the Enlightenment where he advocated a return to nature, located on the estate and then called the "Academy of La Source". Alternately converted into regular gardens in the early 17th century, then into landscaped gardens in the 19th century, the floral park of La Source is today a green contemporary space of nature. Since the International Floralies were held there in 1967, a horticultural exhibition that gave its name to the park, the latter has benefited from an impetus of cultural and floral creation. At the level of the great plain, a woman curled up on herself and placing her head on her knees, La Source, sculpture by Antoniucci Volti, metaphors the resurgence of Loiret. Throughout the park, many and varied gardens succeed one another, the alternation of atmospheres allowing everyone to find their way around: the garden of forms, which is inspired by zen gardens with trees carved into clouds, the rock garden, evoking a mountain landscape where mineral and vegetable intermingle, or even the water mirror and the butterfly greenhouse. The beautiful part is obviously made of flowers with the dahlia garden, the iris garden, the rose garden and the place of the fuchsias.
